Breaking News!!: Pendleton, CA: Operators at San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant announced precautionary shutdown of Unit 3.

Operators of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant announced Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 that they have begun a precautionary shutdown of Unit 3 because sensors at the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant detected a possible leak in one of the unit’s steam generator tubes.

According to Southern California Edison, the potential leak poses no imminent danger to the public or plant workers and that there has been no release to the atmosphere.

San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant personnel are investigating the cause of the leak and steps required to repair it.

Southern California Edison reserve power to meet customer needs while Unit 3 is offline.
