Breaking News!!: San Bernardino, CA: San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approves Cadiz Water Project.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors consider various actions related to the proposed Cadiz Valley Water Conservation, Recovery and Storage Project during a special meeting of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors held on Monday, October 1st, 2012 in San Bernardino, California.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez was the only local news reporter at the special meeting of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.

The special meeting lasted almost 5 hours with both sides giving the comments for and against the Cadiz Water Project with many traveling far and wide to attended this important meeting.

After hearing both sides regarding the Cadiz Water Project, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors voted 4 to 1 in support the Cadiz Water Project agenda item which included the recommended items.

San Bernardino County Board of Supervisor of the First District Brad Mitzelfelt who serves the Needles, California area voted in support of the Cadiz Water Project.

** Recommendation items regarding the Cadiz Water Project agenda item includes the following: **

– 1: Conduct a public hearing on the Groundwater Management, Monitoring, and Mitigation Plan for Phase 1 of the Cadiz Valley Groundwater Conservation, Recovery, and Storage Project, as amended September 2012 (GMMMP).

– 2: Adopt Resolution No. 2012-XX, A Resolution of the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Bernardino Considering an Environmental Impact Report, Making Responsible Agency Findings, Adopting a Statement of Overriding Considerations and Mitigation Monitoring and Reporting Plan, Approving a Groundwater Management, Monitoring, and Mitigation Plan, and Authorizing an Exclusion for Phase ! Of the Cadiz Valley Groundwater Conservation, Recovery, and Storage Project.

– 3: Direct the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors to file a Notice of Determination.

A protest was held before the special meeting of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.

After the special meeting of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, ZachNews spoke to the External Affairs Director with Santa Margarita Water District regarding the Cadiz Water Project.

The Cadiz Water Project would provide water to six water districts throughout Southern California by extracting millions of acre feet of underground water from an area of the Mojave Desert located about 40 miles northeast of Twentynine Palms, California and move the extracted underground water along a 43 mile pipeline to the Colorado River Aqueduct which the water will be sent to coastal cities in Southern California.
