The 8th Annual Route 66 Hot Boat and Custom Car Show will be held at Jack Smith Memorial Park located at 1001 River Road, near the Colorado River, in Needles, California.

Day of event placement of vehicles and boats for the 8th Annual Route 66 Hot Boat and Custom Car Show will start at 7:30am PT.

The 8th Annual Route 66 Hot Boat and Custom Car Show will be open for the public at 9:00am PT.

There will be lots of hot boats, custom cars and trucks, music and entertainment, a beer garden, food vendors, t-shirt and product vendors, cackle-fest, demonstration runs of boats on the Colorado River, and much more.

The public will also get the chance to see the NASCAR #22 and get to ride inside a NASCAR simulator.

This year, there will be a Kids Zone by Set Free Church of Needles next to the playground area at Jack Smith Memorial Park.

Entertainment by Singer Sarah Jane Jackson-Vanderpool will be making an appearance during the event on Saturday, Dry Heat will be performing during Saturday’s event from 11:00am to 2:00pm PT, and D.J. Jim Russell will be Master of Ceremonies through the other portion of the event.

The main entertainment stage area will be located next to the Colorado River and all of the retail and food vendors will be surrounding all of the hot boats and custom car display area and the Beer Garden area nearest to the park area.

The United States Bureau of Land Management’s Needles Field Office will host their 2nd Annual Route 66 Public Lands Cruise across the northern east portion of the Mojave Desert in San Bernardino County, California.

The event will be held in conjunction with the 8th Annual Route 66 Hot Boat and Custom Car Show, and Golf Tournament.

The Route 66 Public Lands Cruise will start between 9:00am or 10:00am PT and will involve 7 card locations.

Participants will gather at the Historic Route 66 California Gateway Site located on Five Mile Road next to Interstate 40 in Needles, California.

The route for the Route 66 Public Lands Cruise will head west of Needles, California to Essex Road near Essex, California then heading north along historic Route 66 into Goffs, California followed by heading east back into Needles, California.

Any licensed vehicle can be used in the Route 66 Public Lands Cruise.

The Route 66 Procession, a procession of hot boats and custom cars and trucks, will be held at 4:00pm PT in the parking lot at the Needles Towne Center located at 1010 East Broadway, just off Interstate 40, in Needles, California.

Participants are being asked to line up at 3:00pm PT in the parking lot nearest to the 99 Cents Only Store at the Needles Towne Center.

The procession will rolling down historic Route 66 along East Broadway, West Broadway, Needles Highway, and River Road ending at Jack Smith Memorial Park in Needles, California.

The Route 66 Procession is motorized driving close to the posted speed limit and roads along the Route 66 Procession route will reportedly open to traffic.

But, all other motorists not participating in the Route 66 Procession should prepare for brief slow to stop traffic as the Route 66 Procession makes their way to Jack Smith Memorial Park.

Work crews for the City of Needles will be helping to make sure that the Route 66 Procession will move smoothly through intersections along the Route 66 Procession  route.

Participants are being told that nobody is to ride in trailered boats, in the back of pickups, or in other places lacking normal passenger safety considerations for licensed motor vehicles.

News Update!!: Kansas: Mass shooting across 2 communities.

ZachNews has the latest information regarding a mass shooting that occured across 2 communities in Kansas on Thursday, February 25th, 2016.

Authorities are saying that a man, armed with a long gun and a pistol, drove through Newton, Kansas and Hesston, Kansas shooting at people before storming the Excel Industries in Hesston, Kansas where the man began shooting at his co-workers.

According to the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office, at least 3 people are dead and 14 people were injured.

The injured people where transported to local hospitals where their conditions were ranging from critical to stable condition.

The mass shooting started at around 4:00pm CT and lasted just 26 minutes before the shooter was shot and killed.

NBC News is reporting that the shooter is identified as 38 year old Cedric Larry Ford and authorities are saying that the shooter was an employee at Excel Industries.

According to the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office T. Walton, the shooting started at 12th Street and Meridian Road in Newton, Kansas where 2 people were shot at while driving their vehicles injuring a person.

The shooter then continued north on Highway 81 where the shooter shot another person in the leg.

“There was a report of a stolen vehicle. That vehicle was the person that got shot. The shooter took that video and went on into Excel Industries. Once he got to Excel Industries, he shot a person in the parking lot and he entered into the building itself. Inside the building he shot a total of 15 people. Four were killed including himself, the shooter,” said Harvey County Sheriff’s Office T. Walton.

Authorities are working to identify all victims and notify family members.

According to the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office T. Walton, authorities confronted the shooter and gunfire was exchanged between authorities and the shooter, and that’s when the shooter was killed.

A couple of hours later, Newton Police Department and a SWAT team converged on a home in a trailer park in Newton, Kansas were the shooter was believed to have lived.

According to the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office T. Walton, the shooter’s roommate was inside and refusing to engage with authorities.

NBC affiliate KSN Channel 3 is reporting that when authorities obtained a warrant and returned at 10:00pm CT, they found the property empty.

According to the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office T. Walton, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on the scene, but terrorism wasn’t suspected.

Excel Industries manufactures lawn care products including riding lawnmowers and the business has been in Hesston, Kansas since the early 1960’s.
Excel Industries will be closed on Friday, February 26th, 2016.

A community meetings to discuss the proposed water and wastewater rate increases was held on Wednesday, February 24th, 2016 inside the Needles City Council Chambers in Needles, California.

ZachNews was at the community meeting as a small group of people attended to learn more about the proposed water and wastewater rate increases and ask questions.

Several community meetings have been held on different days to help information local residents and businesses about the proposed water and wastewater rate increases which is set to increase by Sunday, May 1st, 2016 and these community meetings are required by law to protect the tax payers for the Proposition 218 process.

During the community meeting, Needles City Manager Rick Daniels spoke about the proposed water and wastewater rate increases, the reasons for the rate increases, the various legislation to limit how municipalities can apply fees and taxes to customers, how other communities rates compare to our community rates, what regulations the City of Needles must adhere to and the cost of compliance, and what’s the state of the water and wastewater system.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels showed the group the 5 year actual expenditure and 5 year audited cash flow deficit.

In 2011, Water was $1,030,777.00 and Wastewater was $813,429.00.

In 2012, Water was $1,124,073.00 and Wastewater was $764,923.00.

In 2013, Water was $1,559,633.00 and Wastewater was $939,850.00. This includes Well #10 Failed and Well #15 Construction Began.

In 2014, Water was $1,160,075.00 and Wastewater was $921,391.00.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels then talked about the rates.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels recently told ZachNews that the typical single family home electric rates are going to decrease $25.81 per month while water is going to increase $18.50 per month and wastewater is going to increase $1.87 per month for a net savings of $5.44 per month for the typical single family customer.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels added that the Needles Utility Board further reduced the electric rates for the typical single family home by approximately $57.77/month for the next 3 to 4 months.

During the community meeting, Needles City Manager Rick Daniels explained how water and wastewater rate revenues are used for water and wastewater purposes, such as paying off debt, operating, and capital replacement, and showed a list of necessary capital improvements that are needing to be done around the community, but those capital improvements are delayed because there’s not enough money to do them at this moment.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels recently told ZachNews that the majority of the water and sewer facilities and pipes were placed in operation in the 1950’s with a life expectancy of 50 years.

Currently, those water and sewer facilities have been used for 66 years now and are rapidly deteriorating requiring costly repairs.

According to Needles City Manager Rick Daniels, during 2016, at least 200 breaks in the water and sewer pipes are expected and nearly 180 occurred in 2015; that’s nearly 1 for every work day.

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels said that an Asset Replacement Funds of at least $400,000 per year is needed

The goal is to pay debts – City of Needles, United States Department of Agriculture Loan and Bonds for purchase of utility, maintain system for regulatory compliances, and funds replacement of worn out infrastructure today and upcoming replacement over the next 10 years.

At the end, Needles City Manager Rick Daniels was ask to talk about the drinking water in the community and what is tested to make sure if the water is safe to drink.

The public will also get the chance to see the NASCAR #22 and get to ride inside a NASCAR simulator.

This year, there will be a Kids Zone by Set Free Church of Needles next to the playground area at Jack Smith Memorial Park.

Entertainment by Singer Sarah Jane Jackson-Vanderpool will be making an appearance during the event on Saturday, Dry Heat will be performing during Saturday’s event from 11:00am to 2:00pm PT, and D.J. Jim Russell will be Master of Ceremonies through the other portion of the event.

The main entertainment stage area will be located next to the Colorado River and all of the retail and food vendors will be surrounding all of the hot boats and custom car display area and the Beer Garden area nearest to the park area.

There will be a free parking shuttle service during Saturday’s event transporting people who are parking at the dirt parking lot area next to the Needles Chamber of Commerce in Downtown Needles, California to Jack Smith Memorial Park for the 8th Annual Route 66 Hot Boat and Custom Car Show.

People can pick up the Free Parking Shuttle starting at 8:00am PT near the Needles Chamber of Commerce Building located near the intersection of Front Street and G Street in Downtown Needles, California.
