Weather Update!!: Needles, CA: Cleaning up after the monsoon thunderstorms.
Well many people were making there way to the vacation destinations for the Independence Day weekend, public work and utility crews were hard at work cleaning up some of the mess monsoon thunderstorms brought over Needles, California.
Monsoon thunderstorms hit the Needles, California area on Thursday, June 30th, 2016 and lasted into the morning of Friday, July 1st, 2016 bringing dusty winds, heavy rain, and small hail on Thursday then a lightning show followed by rain and more lightning.
During the Friday morning lightning show, at least 4 utility poles were hit by lightning cause a power outage in parts of the Needles, California community.
ZachNews learned that lightning hit a utility pole along San Clemente Street, another utility pole along the Park Moabi utility line, and 2 other utility poles near Verde Shores.
All of the utility poles were quickly repaired and power was restored.
As what usually happens when heavy rain falls on to this desert community, some local roads and highways were impacted by flooding from rain runoff.
The California Highway Patrol were spotted blocking off Needles Highway between Park Boulevard to Aha Macav Pkwy, the road that leads you to the Avi Resort and Casino in Laughlin, Nevada, because of the roadway was flooded and due to that flooding and the roadway got washed out.
Authorities say that a car and a big rig carrying hay got stuck in the muddy flooded roadway when they saw the roadway was washed out.
According to the California Highway Patrol, there is a “Hard Closure” at the River Road cut off from eastbound Interstate 40 due to the roadway is washed out.
Crews were reportedly working to clean up and fix the damage roadway so to reopen Needles Highway.
At this moment, there is no details on when will the roadway be reopen.
Because of the closure, motorists and Independence Day vacation travelers are taking Needles Highway into Needles, California then Harbor Drive into Mohave Valley, Arizona to get to their vacation destinations.
Traffic is heavy along Needles Highway from West Broadway to North K Street in Needles, California as everybody heads over into Mohave Valley, Arizona over the Needles Bridge.
Traffic got more heavy thanks to flooding in the K Street Underpass closing North K Street front Front Street to Needles Highway in Needles, California.
Motorists who usually use North K Street had to use West Broadway to Needles Highway which became a traffic jam.
Clean up crews worked to clean up the dirt runoff in the K Street Underpass and by that afternoon, the K Street Underpass was reopened.
Despite the closure and heavy traffic in the area, the monsoon thunderstorms aftermath will not stop people from celebrating of our country’s Independence Day.
