A nation is in mourning after a deadly ambush shooting on the people of Dallas, Texas.

A multi-faith with Dallas Police Chief and Dallas’ Mayor was held Friday to remember and prays for the victims in the deadly ambush shooting.

During the multi-faith, the large crowd of people gave a around of applause thanking law enforcement officers – some saying “We need you officers!” and “Thank you!” – and giving their respects to the fallen law enforcement officers.

Authorities released the identity of the gunman in the deadly ambush shooting.

Dallas Police Department identified the sniper in the deadly ambush shooting as Micah Xavier Johnson of Mesquite, a Texas Army veteran who was deployed to Afghanistan from November 2013 to July 2014.

Authorities say 5 police officers were killed — 4 Dallas police officers and a Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer — and 9 others were injured – 7 officers and 2 civilians – after 2 snipers ambushed and opened fire on police officers who were at a peaceful protest march against nationwide officer-involved shootings on the night of Thursday, July 7th, 2016.

The deceased DART officer was identified as 43-year-old Officer Brent Thompson. He’s the first DART officer killed in the line of duty since the transit service formed a police department in 1989. He joined DART in 2009.

Identities of the deceased Dallas police officers have not been released.

Speaking to MSNBC, a child of one of the officers wounded in the Dallas attack said, “I’m just glad that she’s alive”.

Authorities say officers cornered Micah Xavier Johnson and negotiated with him for hours before talks broke down.

According to Dallas Police Chief David Brown, Micah Xavier Johnson told officers that he was upset about recent shootings involving police, upset at Black Lives Matter, and “wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.”

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said that after an exchange of gunfire, officers attached an explosive device to a bomb robot and detonated it near Micah Xavier Johnson killing him.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown said before the standoff ended, Micah Xavier Johnson told a hostage negotiator he was upset about recent shootings involving police officers and that he specifically wanted to kill white police officers.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown added that Micah Xavier Johnson was not affiliated with any group, carried out the act alone and said to police that they would eventually find the IEDs he claimed to have placed around the city.

Authorities say that a black SUV was found at the scene of the shootings was listed as registered to Delphene Johnson, also of Mesquite, but there’s no word yet on the connection between Micah Xavier Johnson and Delphene Johnson.

The ATF and FBI have joined the investigation.
