The California Highway Patrol said the Red Earth Casino provided them with a manifest of the passengers on the bus.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Vides arrived at the casino between 11:00pm and 11:30pm PT on Saturday and the bus left at 4:00am PT on Sunday.

Investigators said they believed Vides, who officials stated was properly licensed to operate the bus, may have been in the casino with the passengers, though California Highway Patrol said they could not confirm he was in the casino at this point in the investigation.

The bus was headed to Los Angeles, California returning from Red Earth Casino in Thermal, California.

Before the fatal crash, California Highway Patrol were doing a traffic break on the intestate.

According to the California Highway Patrol Border Division Chief Jim Abele, the speed of bus was so significant that the trailer itself entered about 15 feet into the bus, and that there was no indication of braking.

Passengers who were asleep on the bus were awaken to loud screams and the sound of crushing metal.

At least 13 people were killed and 31 were injured.

All but 2 of the deceased have been identified, but officials said that they are waiting to release the identifications pending notification of their next of kin..

The charter bus company is USA Holiday based in Los Angeles, California.

According to California Highway Patrol Border Division Chief Jim Abele, it appeared the 1996 bus didn’t have seat belts and likely didn’t have data recorder that would reveal how fast the bus was traveling and whether the driver braked before impact.

Federal records show the bus had no crashes in the past 2 years and had a satisfactory safety rating.

Authorities say it’s not known if alcohol, drugs, or fatigue played a role in the fatal crash.

The California Highway Patrol stated that detectives were looking into surveillance videos of surrounding businesses to help look for clues.

The National Transportation Safety Board has a team investigating the fatal crash.

Anybody who witnessed the fatal crash or has any information that could aid detectives in their investigation was urged to call California Highway Patrol at: 1 (760) 772-8900.
