Windy conditions didn’t stop the enjoy and fun of the Ol’ St. Nick on Route 66 Christmas in the Park 2016 held on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 in Downtown Needles, California.

The event, sponsored by the Needles Downtown Business Alliance, is mostly held at Santa Fe Park, but windy conditions moved many of the vendors inside the El Garces Train Depot.

The scene inside the warm El Garces Train Depot was filled with homemade items and gifts vendors all there to help you find a wonderful gift for the holiday and Christmas season.

From Sra, Flores’ Hand Crafted Items for Kitchen, Bath, and Apparel, to Golden Gragon L.L.C., and even the Sunrise and Moonsong Jewelry, there were so many wonderful vendors.

Sunrise and Moonsong Jewelry also had books you can purchase from author Erika M. Szabo, who writes magical realism-suspense, Health related books, and English and Spanish children’s books, including “Look, I Can Talk With My Fingers!” and “Pico, The Pesky Parrot.”

Along with the homemade and gift vendors, food vendors where also set up inside.

Loaded baked potatoes served at the Needles Sandsharks swim team, which provides every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to international competitor well building self-confidence, self-discipline, integrity, and courage.

Across the way, pulled pork and barbecue sauce was served up at the A.V.I.D. (Advancement Via Individual Determination) booth, which helps students get interested in college and trains educators to use proven practices in order to prepare students for success in high school, college, and a career.

Both booth offered customers a special deal; when you purchased a baked potato at the Needles Sandsharks, you can top your baked potato with pulled pork and barbecue sauce at the A.V.I.D. booth, which was really very delicious bring together great food thanks to great people wanting to raise money to up our youth in our community in sports and in education.

Across the street, the Needles Regional Museum and the Community Thrift Shop was opened up for people to learn about our community and find a great gift well inside the warm building.

Just down the street, the Santa’s Workshop, hosted by Desert Communities Federal Credit Union and the Women’s Club of Needles, was held during the event.

Kids got to take pictures with Santa Claus and sign up your children up for the annual community toy drive well inside the warm building.

The winds also didn’t stop the great races and entertainment that were held during the event.

The Peewee Derby Races 2016 was held during the Ol’ St. Nick on Route 66 Christmas in the Park 2016 where kids got to race down a ramp and role onto Route 66 for the win.

Later, the River Valley Dancers preformed along Route 66 bringing the joy and spirit of the holiday and Christmas season in dance to our community.

Continuing the joy and spirit of the holiday and Christmas season, the Needles Recreation Center’s Dance Trax 51 preformed along Route 66 and warming up the crowd of people watching and cheering for the wonderful dancers.

The Ol’ St. Nick on Route 66 Christmas in the Park 2016 event ended with a wonderful lighted parade down Route 66.

People lined up along Front Street to watch as decorated and lighted floats and vehicles as well as marching bands passed along Santa Fe Park.
