Downtown Needles, CA: Driver arrested after deputies located narcotics during a traffic stop and foot pursuit.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at 11:00pm PT on Wednesday, December 21st, 2016, Deputy Nicolas Yates conducted a traffic stop in the area of A Street and Front Street in Downtown Needles, California.
Deputy Yates made contact with the driver, identified as 43 Years old Andrew Whiting from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and after a records check it was determined that Whiting had a suspended Arizona drivers license.
During a search, a methamphetamine pipe was found in Andrew Whiting’s pocket, and as deputies began to search Andrew Whiting’s vehicle he fled on foot.
Deputy Yates pursued Andrew Whiting on foot and located him hiding in the backyard in the 200 block of Bazoobuth Street.
Andrew Whiting refused to follow commands and assaulted Deputy Yates.
After a brief struggle, Whiting was taken into custody.
During a search of Andrew Whiting’s vehicle, approximately 90 grams of methamphetamine was located.
Deputies also located a digital scale, measuring spoons, syringes and cash in small denominations.
Andrew Whiting was transported to the Colorado River Station Jail in Needles, California and booked for HS 11379: Possession of Methamphetamine for Sales and PC 69: Resisting Arrest.
Andrew Whiting’s bail has been set at $50,000.
