Riverside, CA: Riverside Police Department and community mourns the loss of a 17 year old police explorer who was killed in a vehicle crash.

The Riverside Police Department and a community is mourning the loss of a 17 year old police explorer who was killed in a vehicle crash on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017 in Riverside, California.

According to the Riverside Police Department, at around 4:13pm PT on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017, the Riverside Police Department’s Dispatch Center received a call of a traffic collision involving a vehicle into a pole at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Banbury Drive in Riverside, California.

Preliminary investigation determined a black pickup truck was traveling east on Magnolia Avenue when it left the roadway and struck a utility pole causing major injuries to the male driver.

The driver, described as a 17 year old male juvenile, was taken to Kaiser Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to the Riverside Police Department, male driver was identified as 17 year old Paul Napier from Jurupa Valley, California and was a member of Riverside Police Explorer Post 714 for the past 1 ½ years.

As a member of Riverside Police Explorer Post 714, Paul Napier has participated in weekly meetings and community events working alongside members of the police department while learning about career opportunities, life skills, and leadership.

Paul Napier was in 11th grade at Jurupa Valley High School in Jurupa Valley, California and worked at his stepdad’s tire business.

Paul Napier is survived by his mother Krystal, stepdad Israel, stepbrother Israel Jr, and stepsisters Andrea and Jessica who’s also a Riverside Police Explorer.

The funeral for Paul Napier will take place at 10:00am PT on Wednesday, February 1st, 2017 at Harvest Christian Fellowship Church, located at 6115 Arlington Avenue, in Riverside, California.

An internment will occur immediately following the funeral service at Olivewood Cemetery, located at 3300 Central Avenue, in Riverside, California.

A fund has been set up through the Riverside Police Foundation to give assistance to Paul Napier’s family.

Donation can also be done in person at the Riverside Police Officers’ Association, located at 1965 Chicago Avenue, Suite B, in Riverside, California.

Officers from the Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded to the crash scene and are investigating crash and are being assisted by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office.
