News Update!!: Mohave Valley, AZ: Keeping service on for Super Bowl LI as new utility pole work continues.

As Super Bowl LI is just hours away from being broadcast live on Fox, technicians with Golden Valley Cable and Communications Inc. are working to keep cable and internet service on after damage to the main facility for Golden Valley Cable and Communications Inc. occurred during work on a new steel utility pole in Mohave Valley, Arizona on Saturday, February 4th, 2017.

Customers with flat screen televisions with QAM tuner and service with Golden Valley Cable and Communications Inc. should scan their television for channels.

Technicians with Golden Valley Cable and Communications Inc. tell ZachNews that they will be at their main facility with extra power generators on stand by in case of any new interuption to their service.

DJ Huffman, Owner of Golden Valley Cable and Communications Inc., tells ZachNews, “Most importantly for this weekend everyone should know that the Super Bowl will be broadcast.”

At around 1:20pm PT on Saturday, February 4th, 2017, utility crews were seen raising a new steel utility pole very close a wooden utility pole and energized power lines along Courtwright Road just east of Vanderslice Road.

According to Peggy Gillman, Manager of Public Affairs and Energy Services with Mohave Electric Cooperative, “An outage for approximately 65 Mohave Electric Cooperative members in lower Mohave Valley occurred Saturday afternoon while Mohave Electric Cooperative’s contractor crews were working in the area. At 2:20pm (MST), a breaker in Mohave Electric Cooperative’s substation sensed a line fault and operated correctly when it de-energized the circuit protecting both the system and crews working.”

ZachNews captured on camera utility crews, including the Four States Electric utility crew from Farmington, New Mexico, working on the new steel utility pole just minutes after the power went out.

Peggy Gillman, Manager of Public Affairs and Energy Services with Mohave Electric Cooperative, tells ZachNews that “Four States crew was replacing a pole which was already set in the ground when the outage occurred.”

“Mohave Electric Cooperative’s crews responded, found no damage, and re-energized the circuit. Power was restored at 3:35 pm,” said Peggy Gillman, Manager of Public Affairs and Energy Services with Mohave Electric Cooperative.

But Golden Valley Cable and Communications Inc. began working on restoring cable and internet service to their customers in Mohave Valley, Arizona and Needles, California after several pieces of equipment and the generator blew out following the power outage.

DJ Huffman, Owner of Golden Valley Cable and Communications Inc., tells ZachNews, “I don’t have a full explanation of what actually happened today but from what I understand. A contractor for MEC was installing steel pole on Courtwright, near our headend location.  At some point this afternoon they raised a steel pole into the energized power lines. The result was a power outage. They restored power only to do the same thing again.  During this incident, our standby generator came on automatically then when the power was restored the first time, it turned off. When the power went out the second time, something happened. Not sure if it was a surge or what, but it blew out several pieces of equipment and the generator.”

As many people around the community prepare to gather in front of their televisions to watch the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons play in Super Bowl LI broadcasting live on Fox beginning at 3:30pm PT, ZachNews has learned that utility crews are again working on placing new steel utility poles along Courtwright Road just east of Vanderslice Road in Mohave Valley, Arizona.
ZachNews is modering the situation and will report on any new power, cable, or internet outages if any occure.
