News Update!!: Needles, CA: Transformer at San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station overloads and breaks down causing power outage.

Residents and businesses were without power for close to an hour after a transformer at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station in Needles, California overloaded and broke down on Tuesday, June, 20th, 2017.

Just before 8:00pm PT, power went out to people living and working west of Bailey Avenue as well as around Vista Colorado Elementary School.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A Lopez began reporting live on Facebook the power outage and who was affected, including homes along Coronado Street, the Buy Rite store off J Street, and lights in the Needles Courthouse and Needles Branch Library parking lot.

San Bernardino County Fire Department were seen heading towards the back parking lot area of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station in Needles, California.

Marcie Joy Bledsoe posted at ZachNews on Facebook, “We were walking through the courthouse area right after, literally 3 mins before fire truck sped past and into police station vehicle entrance, smelled strong smell of chemical fire, or like burning rubber or wires.”

Needles City Manager Rick Daniels tells ZachNews that a transformer at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office “overloaded and broke down.”

At around 9:00pm PT, power was restored to all residents and businesses.

“Crew worked until 3:00am PT after putting in a full day in 125*F heat. Great crew,” said Needles City Manager Rick Daniels.
