The attacker armed with a knife tried to enter Parliament building.

The attacker stabbed and killed a police officer.

Journalists based inside the Parliament building heard gunshots shortly after 2:30pm Local Time (10:30am ET) and were told to stay in their offices.

The attacker was shot and killed by police fficers.

The Parliament building was placed on a locked down and adjoining Westminster subway station were closed for hours after the terror attack.

A total of 3 people, including the police officer and an American, were killed in the terror attack.

Several people were reportedly injures in the terror attack, including 20 people who were treated for serious injuries and 8 people who suffered less serious wounds.

NBC News is reporting that French teenagers on a school trip and 2 Romanian tourists were among the casualties.

Authorities are treating the attack as a “terrorist incident” and had launched a full counter-terrorism investigation.

“We are satisfied at this stage that it looks like there was only one attacker,” said Metropolitan Police Counter-Terrorism Chief Mark Rowley adding “But it would be foolish to be overconfident early on.”

The threat level for international terrorism in the United Kingdom was already listed at severe, meaning an attack is “Highly Likely.”

During a nationally televised address outside 10 Downing Street, United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Theresa May called the attacker a “sick and depraved terrorist” adding, “The location of this attack was no accident. The terrorist chose to strike at the heart of our national capital. Let me make it clear today, any attempt to defeat those values through violence and terror is doomed to failure.”

United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Theresa May announced that Parliament would meet as scheduled on Thursday, March 23rd, 2017 and said that Londoners refused to allow the voices of hate and evil to drive us apart.

In a statement from the White House, United States of America President Donald Trump called United Kingdom’s Prime Minister Theresa May to offer his condolences on today’s terror attack in London and praise for the effective response of security forces and first responders.

“He pledged the full cooperation and support of the United States Government in responding to the attack and bringing those responsible to justice,” said United States of America President Donald Trump in the release statement.

The terror attack comes on the year anniversary of the Brussels terrorist attacks which killed 32 people.

Northridge, CA: Remembering 23 years ago the Northridge Earthquake of Monday, January 17th, 1994.

Northridge, CA: Remembering 23 years ago the Northridge Earthquake of Monday, January 17th, 1994.

On Tuesday, January 17th, 2017, we remember 23 years ago the Northridge Earthquake that rocked Northridge, California at around 4:30am PT on Monday, January 17th, 1994.

Zachary A. Lopez of ZachNews will never forget that early morning living at the Peyton Avenue Apartments in Burbank, California when the largest earthquake he had ever felt in his life woke him up.

“I was 8 years old and as a child, I use to have a lots of nightmares, nightmares that were scary and had to do with my up bringing. But that night I remember being woken out of a nightmare sleep into a real life nightmare earthquake. I can’t forget the loud rattling and shattering of glass around my home, the cracking of walls in my front room, the loud alarms going off from parked vehicles under me in the underground parking structure, and me holding on for dear life under the kitchen table as the earthquake shook wildly all around me, After the earthquake, darkness was all around me and the aftershocks began. I was so scared and worried what would happen next if I leave the safety of the kitchen table. That earthquake was the largest earthquake that I had ever felt in my life and I will never forget how so many people’s lives were changed after that earthquake,” said Zachary A. Lopez of ZachNews.

** Video “The Quake of 94” from Rewindium on YouTube: **

Soon after the large earthquake rocked the across Los Angeles County, California, radio and television began broadcasting live on the large earthquake that hit their community, including KNBC 4 News Reporter Joe Rico from NBC affiliate KNBC Channel 4 in Burbank, California who began his reporting on the large earthquake with, “We’re here in the Channel 4 Newsroom. As you folks – there’s no surprise – early this morning, we’ve been hit by a major earthquake,” said KNBC 4 News Reporter Joe Rico.

“I remembered everybody in my apartment building glued to the news wanting to know more about this earthquake, how bad was the shaking, and and if there were anybody hurt. I remember watching the news reports from KNBC 4 as they showed the damage and fires that was burning. I prayed that everybody was alright and to please stop the shaking.” said Zachary A. Lopez of ZachNews.

Initially, the large earthquake was reported as a strong magnitude 6.6 earthquake, but years later, the magnitude was upgraded to a magnitude 6 7 earthquake.

The large earthquake rocked people out of their sleep across the San Fernando Valley, California; Los Angeles, California; San Bernardino County; Riverside, California; and Orange County, California, and as far away as Needles, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; Richfield, Utah; and Ensenada, Mexico.

“I remembered everybody in my apartment building glued to the radio and battery televisions wanting to know more about this earthquake and how bad was the shaking,” said Zachary A. Lopez of ZachNews.

The large earthquake killed 57 people, injured around 8,700 people, over 20,000 people were homeless, over 40,000 buildings were damaged causing around $20 billion dollars in damages.

** Here are a few of the deaths, injuries, and damages that occurred during the large earthquake included the following: **

  • A home near Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades, California was destroyed in a mudslide that was triggered by the large earthquake.
  • Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim, California were a large scoreboard collapsed on top of several hundred seats which were all vacant at the time of the earthquake.

The large earthquake changed the lives of so many people over the days, weeks, months, and years after the large earthquake and would ever be known as the Northridge Earthquake, the 1994 Northridge Earthquake, or The Quake of 94.

Many of things have changed after the earthquake occurred; from improvements to infrastructures, overpasses, and bridges, and changes in the building codes and enforcement, to technology helping to improve quick response by first responders during a disaster as well as new technology to alert people in the path of an earthquake to head for safety.

ben-lmhiiaas0or

As we remember the Northridge Earthquake 23 years ago today, first responders and community officials want to remain everybody that the most important thing everybody, in California and around the globe, is preparedness and to have a plan of action.

Remember to have an emergency disaster kid and first aid kit ready to go in case of a disaster happens stocked up with items such as drinkable water, canned foods, flashlights, batteries, blankets, medications, Band Aids, anti-bacteria appointments, toilet paper, battery operated or crank up radio, important papers you might need including your social security card and birth certificate, warm clothing items, terrible walking shoes, and many more survivable items needed to survive at least 7 to 10 days after the earthquake as some experts and first responders recommended people to do.

When earthquake occurs, remember to get underneath a sturdy table and hold on tight well you cover your head.

If you’re at home or building during an earthquake, when it is safe to move after the earthquake, make sure to check your gas, water, and electric lines and if damaged, shut off the service. If you have a gas leak, do not use matches.

Call 911 for emergencies only and if you are making a call on a communication device such as landline phones or cellular phone, try to make a call to a friend or family member outside the disaster area and make calls only if they are important as phone service will be very busy or limited if communication lines are damaged and down after an earthquake.

If you are driving on the road, highway, or interstate, pull over to the side of the road away from a overhead power lines, bridges, and overpasses in case those power lines fall or those bridges and overpasses buckle and collapse.

Never run outside during an earthquake or use candles and elevators after an earthquake.

A good idea to do is to have you your family and friends enter a class on how to prepare for an earthquake or join a training class on surviving a disaster.

If you would like to help your community during a disaster, volunteer with your local Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.), American Red Cross, or other disaster relief organizations.

Please remember to remain calm and come together as a community to help each other get through a disaster.

knbc11719945

May we never forget the many people who lost their lives during the Northridge Earthquake on Monday, January 17th, 1994.

May we never stop thanking the many first responders and Good Samaritan that came together to help save lives and help those in need after the Northridge Earthquake on Monday, January 17th, 1994.

May we never let a disasters, either man-made and nature cause, break or divide our love, caring, and helpful spirit for we are community.

** Video from the Today Show: **

The manager of the Ghost Ship, 46 year old Derick Ion Almena, was interviewed Tuesday morning on the Today Show, but emotions set in during the interview of what happened and the many people who died inside his warehouse.

During the emotional interview, Derick Ion Almena defended his role as landlord for the building which was used as a residential artist community.

I’m only here to say one thing: I’m incredibly sorry and that everything that I did was to make this a stronger and more beautiful community and to bring people together. People didn’t walk through those doors because it was a horrible place. People didn’t seek us out to perform and express themselves because it was a horrible place,” Derick Ion Almena told the Today Show.

Derick Ion Almena told the Today Show that he opened the warehouse to artists that didn’t have space elsewhere and for people who “can’t pay your rent because your dream is bigger than your pocketbook.”

When the needed for housing, the need for people to be able to sit down and be warm and make food and take a shower, take a bath and go to bed. So we created something together. This stopped being me. This stopped being about me 3 years ago,” Derick Ion Almena told the Today Show.

Derick Ion Almena told the Today Show that when he signed the lease for the building.

I signed a a lease and I got a building that was to city standards supposedly. I was lowered into something that I had to constantly….,” Derick Ion Almena told the Today Show.

A tech sales worker and jewelry maker who lived there for 4 to 5 months about 2 years ago at the converted warehouse dubbed the “Ghost Ship” spoke to NBC affiliate KNTV Channel 11.

The former tenant, 58 year old Shelley Mack said she found the rental in an ad on Facebook, paid about $700 a month in rent, along with a security deposit of the same amount and a one-time contribution of about $700 to a fund meant to go toward improvements, but none were ever made.

Shelley Mack said that the warehouse was often freezing cold in the building, water and power were sometimes stolen from neighbors, who would get angry and shut them off, and once, a generator blew up, and residents quickly doused the flames.

Shelley Mack told NBC affiliate KNTV Channel 11 that she didn’t know the ramshackle dwelling was illegal until after she moved in and she was instructed to tell visitors it was a 24-hour workspace for artists.

When inspectors or other outsiders came to visit, Shelley Mack said she and other residents scurried to hide clothes, bedding and other evidence anyone was living there.

It’s a good example of people taking advantage of people because they had no other options. People make businesses off scamming people online when they’re looking for a place,” Shelley Mack told NBC affiliate KNTV Channel 11.

The warehouse was crammed with rugs, old sofas and a garage-sale-like collection of pianos, paintings, turntables, statues and other items that quickly fed the flames.

“All kinds of electrical cords running through there illegally. Massive extension cords. Heavy musical equipment. That place was just a death trap. I didn’t think it was going to last this long before it went up or somebody shut it down,” Shelley Mack told NBC affiliate KNTV Channel 11.

Shelley Mack then told NBC affiliate KNTV Channel 11 that one doorway was blocked, because it led to the property of a neighbor who’d been in a dispute with the operators, whom she and other former tenants and friends identified as 46 year old Derick Ion Almena and his wife, 40 year old Micah Allison.

They lure you in with all these promises about what they’re going to do with your deposit and your rent. They don’t do any of it. They just party with it,” Shelley Mack told NBC affiliate KNTV Channel 11.

When asked about those claims during the Today Show interview, Derick Ion Almena said, “I don’t want to talk – I don’t want to talk about it, I don’t want to talk about me. I don’t want to talk about profiting. This is profit? The loss of mass life? Like I’m a father. I lay my three children down there every night. Profit, this is not profit – this is lost, this is a mass grave.”

When asked for the families of the victims, Derick Ion Almena said, “I’m only here to say – I’m only here to say one thing, that I’m incredibly sorry and that everything I did was to make this a stronger, beautiful community and to bring people together. People didn’t walk through those doors because it was a horrible place. People didn’t seek us out to preform and to express themselves because it was a horrible place.  I’m 47 years old, I’m the father of this space, and on the night of the fire – did I know there was going to be a fire? Did I move my children from the space? and get a hotel – because I wanted to avoid this? because I wanted to cast blame on other people? No, because I wanted to get a good night sleep with my children and I wanted to let the young people do what they needed to do.”

Addressing the questions the 2 host of the Today Show are asking, Derick Ion Almena said, “I am not going to answer any of these questions in the way you are presenting them. I didn’t do anything ever in my life that would leave me up to this moment. I’m an honorable man, I’m a proud man – No I’m not going to answer these questions on this level. I’d rather get on the floor and be trampled by the parents. I’d rather let them tear at my flesh than answer these ridiculous questions. I’m so sorry, I’m incredibly sorry, what do you want me to say – I am not going to answer these questions. I am just going to say that I’m sorry.”

As Today Show host Matt Lauer was ending the interview and thanking him for his time, Derick Ion Almena said, “If you have to hold my soul accountable – if you have to hold my soul accountable for believing in something. And loitering in other artistes and other beautiful people – that also believed with me, and for 3 years we built something – everyday, we improved everything.

After the emotional interview, Derick Ion Almena avoided questions from the many news media outlets as he was escorted away to a vehicle.

Since the deadly warehouse fire, many in the artist’s community are now focusing their anger at Derick Ion Almena, the founder of the collective who escaped the fire.

City of Oakland Officials said that the Ghost Ship, the warehouse that Derick Ion Almena told several news media outlets people lived inside, was not permitted as a residential building, but there are many of similar warehouses across Oakland, California and San Francisco, California.

Meanwhile, as the investigation continues into this deadly warehouse fire, many in the artist’s community are now focusing their anger at 46 year old Derick Ion Almena, the founder of the collective who escaped the fire.

Derick Ion Almena’s wife and children were reportedly at a hotel when the fire broke out.

Derick Ion Almena, who friends knew as Derick Ion, was convicted in January of receiving stolen property, specifically an Airstream trailer from his landlord in January 2015, court records show.

Derick Ion Almena spent 2 days in jail then, plead no contest to a misdemeanor, and is currently on probation until 2019.

TMZ is reporting that law enforcement sources say Derick Ion Almena was pulled over in Los Angeles County, California for having expired tags in March 2015, and while searching his car cops discovered he had 2 stolen license plates from vehicles registered in Oakland, California.

Derick Ion Almena was arrested and booked for petty theft, but was never charged though — the District Attorney declined to prosecute.

Derick Ion Almena survived the fire and posted to Facebook after hearing that the converted warehouse he managed was the site of a deadly fire.

The Facebook post, which has since been deleted, got a lot of attention because of its insensitivity to what was already known to be a fatal scene.

Derick Ion Almena’s Facebook post read, “Confirmed. Everything I worked so hard for is gone. Blessed that my children and Micah were at a hotel safe and sound … it’s as if I have awoken from a dream filled with opulence and hope … to be standing now in poverty of self worth.”

His Facebook posting prompted more than 2,000 comments, and many of them were critical of Almena’s message.

People who commented to Derick Ion Almena’s facebook posting said he showed more concern for his material possessions than the people who were killed in the blaze.

NBC News received a statement from Derick Ion Almena which read, “In my previous Facebook post, I had no idea there was a loss of life. This tragic event consumes me every moment. My heart is broken. My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends who have suffered the loss of loved ones.”
