News Update!!: Bullhead City, AZ: Latest Information: Deadly Officer Involved Shooting on Alta Vista Drive.

ZachNews -- News Update!!

News Update!!: Bullhead City, AZ: Latest Information: Deadly Officer Involved Shooting on Alta Vista Drive.

New information has been released by the Lake Havasu City Police Department regarding the deadly officer involved shooting by Bullhead City Police Department Officers that occurred along the 1700 block of Alta Vista Drive in Bullhead City, Arizona on Sunday, December 11th, 2016.

ZachNews received a press release by Sgt Tom Gray, Professional Standards Bureau / Public Information Officer with the Lake Havasu City Police Department, regarding the officer involved shooting in Bullhead City, Arizona.

The press release states, “On December 11, 2016 at approximately 7:58 P.M. Bullhead City Police officers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of Alta Vista Road after receiving a 9-1- 1 call from a female indicating there was going to be a shooting. At approximately 8:04 P.M. the first police officer arrived on scene. A short time later, the officer encountered a female subject outside of the residence who pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the officer. The officer discharged his duty weapon multiple times, striking the female at least once. The 44-year old female was transported to the Western Arizona Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased approximately one hour later. Two occupants of the residence were unharmed during the incident. No other officers were involved in the shooting. Detectives from the Lake Havasu City Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit have been called in to conduct the investigation and responded to the scene late Sunday evening. It is customary for the Bullhead City Police Department to have an outside police agency investigate an officer involved shooting incident. The officer was placed on routine administrative leave, which is also common with an officer involved shooting incident. The investigation by the Lake Havasu City Police Department detectives is on-going and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

This new information saying that the person who was shot and died was a woman comes after 2 phone calls into ZachNews by Bullhead City Police Department Public Information Officer Carina Spotts confirming that the person in the shooting was a “Man” and telling ZachNews that “He was transported” to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center.

When asked about if the person died at the hospital or en route to the hospital, Bullhead City Police Department Public Information Officer Carina Spotts said that she don’t know if “he died” at the hospital or en route to the hospital.

When news came out Monday morning that the person who was shot and died was actually a woman, Bullhead City Police Department Public Information Officer Carina Spotts told ZachNews, “I just found this out this morning,” and wasn’t sure who said that it was a man to the newspaper, which also reported the “One man is reportedly dead after a shooting in Bullhead City Sunday night.”

When asked about the confusion over this officer involved shooting and the information being provided by the Bullhead City Police Department, Sgt Tom Gray tells ZachNews that he didn’t know where the confusion came from and that’s why a press release is delayed sometimes to confirm the facts before anything is published.

“Often there is misinformation during the early part of any investigation and we do our best to get the facts out as quickly as possibly,” said Sgt Tom Gray.
