Needles, CA: An important public meeting regarding the Pacific Gas and Electric’s Topock Compressor Station will be held on Wednesday, December 12th, 2012 starting at 6:00pm PT inside the Needles High School Auditorium at Needles High School is located at 1600 Washington Street between Park Avenue and Bailey Avenue in Needles, California.

Holiday Christmas Season kicked off in Downtown Needles last Saturday.

Downtown Needles, CA: Many from throughout the Colorado River Tri-State area came to Downtown Needles, California last Saturday to kick off the Holiday Christmas Season as the community held 3 events ending with a tree lighting and parade down the historic and world famous Route 66.

 

 

The Ol Saint Nick on Route 66 was an all day Christmas Event held on Saturday, December 1st, 2012 at Santa Fe Park in Downtown Needles, California:

 

 

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez was there to coverage all the fun as hundreds of people enjoyed all the tasty food, great entertainment, and fun the Holiday Christmas Event offered.

 

 

Entertainment from London Dance Studio, River Valley Line Dances, and Dance Trax 51 got the crowd dancing and moving well a DJ played Holiday Christmas Music and Mohave Valley High Carolers sang Christmas songs brought the warm and joyful feeling of the Holiday Christmas Season.

 

 

Children games and bounce houses had the kids entertained well their parents got some of their shopping done at the many booths selling great gift for the Holiday Christmas Season.

 

 

A Route 66 Pinewood Derby brought families together cheering on the best wooden car. Paul Smith won First Place in the 4 to 6 Year Old Division and Kandice Summers won First Place in the 7 to 9 Year Old Division.

 

 

People got to enjoy over 12 tasty food vendors selling burritos, hot dogs, barbecue beef sandwiches, baked potatoes, chili, soda, hot chocolate, coffee, and cotton candy.

 

Employees at the Munchy’s Mexican Restaurant told ZachNews that they sold out 6 dozen of their pork tamales and chicken roll tacos at the Christmas Event and were very happy to be there.

 

 

Down the street at Palo Verde College Needles Campus, many families with their children came to get their pictures taken for free thanks to members of the Palo Verde College Photography Class and the Tri-State Focus Photography Club.

 

Palo Verde College Photography Class Digital Instructor William Mitchell told ZachNews that this is their third year doing this event and is a holiday way of giving back to the community.

 

 

ZachNews was there as Jerry Lewis and his wife Doris were getting their Holiday Pictures taken by the Palo Verde College Photography Class and the Tri-State Focus Photography Club.

Jerry Lewis told ZachNews that he enjoy getting his Holiday Pictures taken here and the pictures looked great.

 

 

Down the street at Women’s Club of Needles Clubhouse, Members of the Women’s Club of Needles held a Boutique Christmas Sale selling an assortment of delicious holiday merchandise and tasty cookies, candies, pies, fudge, and brownies.

 

Shopper Blanca Valdez told ZachNews that this was here third year coming out to the Boutique Christmas Sale and that every year finds something she likes.

 

 

During the Boutique Christmas Sale, Santa Claus rowed on down the historic and world famous Route 66 early to say hello to all the good boys and girls well having their picture taken.

 

Santa Claus told ZachNews that the weather into town was warmer then usual, but the reindeer didn’t mind. Santa Claus told the children out there to obey their mothers and fathers, and their teacher at school, work hard, and that Santa is watch. Santa Claus will be riding on by into town again on Christmas Eve Night to deliver all the good boys and girls hat they wanted for Christmas.

 

 

There will also a 1 Day Registration Event happening during the Boutique Christmas Sale for local parent or guardian wanting to register your children to receive a toy as part of the Needles Spark of Love Toy Drive put on by Needles Chamber of Commerce, San Bernardino County Fire Department, Needles Elks Lodge #1608, Needles Elementary Parent and Teacher Association, and the Women’s Club of Needles.

 

Sue Godnick of the Needles Chamber of Commerce told ZachNews that so far 150 children have been signed up by their family members who are trying to make it in these troubling time.

 

Toys will be collected from Now until Monday, November 17th, 2012. Those who want to donate toys, gift cards, or money can do so at the Needles Chamber of Commerce office located at 100 G Street at F Street in Downtown Needles, California.

 

 

Back at the Ol Saint Nick on Route 66 Christmas Event and as the sun sets over the Mojave Desert, a Tree of Lights was about to be lighted up by City of Needles Mayor Edward Paget during a Tree Lighting Ceremony at Santa Fe Park.

 

The City of Needles Mayor Edward Paget thanked all who participated in the Ol Saint Nick on Route 66 Christmas Event and after a countdown, the Tree of Lights brighten up the night sky.

 

 

After the Tree Lighting Ceremony, a Christmas Lighting Parade rolled down the streets on Downtown Needles, California and the historic and world famous Route 66 to Santa Fe Park were a huge crowd were waiting anxiously for the parade to start and for Santa Claus to come.

 

Over 20 entries were participating in the Christmas Lighting Parade from bands to decorated and lighted floats. Marine Corps League Detachment 757 Color Guard and Honor Grade of Lake Havasu City, Arizona started the Christmas Lighting Parade with many in the crowd giving their thanks. The Needles High School Marching Band and Fort Mojave Indian Tribe Tribal Marching Band matched in songs of the Holiday Christmas Season.

 

Decorated and Lighted Floats from a decorated 1959 GMC Fire Engine from the Golden Shore Fire Department and the Needles Rotary Club and Interact Club of Needles, California with their float decorated in lights and a 2 door classic car, to a large decorated tow track from Toe Truck Towing Service and the Horse-N-Around 4-H Club of Mohave Valley, Arizona with their tall float which had a barn decorated in lights and live stock inside enjoying the ride. The Horse-N-Around 4-H Club won this year’s Best Float Trophy and were very happy to win the award.

 

 

The Fort Mojave Tribal Police SWAT Team rolled down and passed out candy to the children lined up along the street and the San Bernardino County Fire Department rolled in giving Santa Claus and his reindeers a bright welcome.

 

 

After the Christmas Lighting Parade, Santa Claus stopped and had his picture taken with children in front of the Tree of Lights at Santa Fe Park.

 

 

The Ol Saint Nick on Route 66 Christmas Event turned out great not only for the organizers, but some nearby businesses saw more then normal pedestrian traffic after the Ol Saint Nick on Route 66 Christmas Event ended.

 

From Lucy’s Mexican Restaurant in Downtown Needles, California had a packed crowd, to employees at the McDonald’s Restaurant seeing a long line of vehicles and people coming in to eat.

 

 

On Sunday, the hard working City Crews working with the City of Needles cleaned up any of the mess left behind at Santa Fe Park and sweep cleared the streets of Downtown Needles, California of trash and mess.

 

 

Many hope the this event will continue next year and get bigger every year after so that the community around Needles, California can have an event that brings families and their community together.

Only on ZachNews- Needles, CA- The first outdoor movie night event in the park bring the community together- Picture- Saturday, December 1st, 2012

Needles, CA: A group of community members of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) came together to have the outdoor movie night event which was held on Friday, November 30th, 2012 at Nikki Bunch Memorial Field in Needles, California.

Mia Rockwood, Robert Rockwood, Stephanie Jones, Danica Willis, Ian Raley, and many other volunteers came out to help put on the outdoor movie night in the park.

Volunteers sold pizza, popcorn, and hot chocolate before the movie “Arthur Christmas” started.

Admission cost to watch the movie was only a $5.00 donation or a new unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item equaling $5. Toys collected at the outdoor movie night event will go to the Needles Spark of Love Toy Drive and food collected at the outdoor movie night event will go to local food banks.

Robert Rockwood put up the built screen, set up the movie projector, and connected some large speakers for the outdoor movie night event.

The cost of putting the outdoor movie night event cost under $200.00 dollars.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez interviewed a Needles resident whole expressed his joy in having an event like this so that children, families, and the community can come together to watch a good movie under the Mojave Desert night sky.
