Downtown Needles, CA: BK’s Pepper Lounge located at 533 Front Street in Downtown Needles, California is shutting down and closing their doors.

Tough financial times have now brought this friendly hang out place to close their doors on Saturday, July 28th 2012.

Many who have heard the news of BK’s Pepper Lounge closing are sad to hear the news and will be missed.

Large Truck Clips Electrical Pole In Needles.

  

Needles, CA: According to Jack Lindley of the City of Needles Electric Department, at around 11:00pm PT Thursday night, a large truck was turning around on North K Street near the K Street Underpass in Needles, California when the large truck clipped a nearby electrical pole and ripped part of the electrical pole off.

The K Street Underpass has a clearance of 8 feet and 6 inches; if you have a large truck, recreational vehicle, or a trailer with a large load that can’t clear the 8 feet and 6 inches K Street Underpass, you are asked to use the West Broadway Overpass which can be accessible from the intersections of West Broadway and J Street as well as Needles Highway and West Broadway.

The City of Needles Electric Department is planning to repair the electrical pole Monday morning.

Weather Alert!!!: Monsoon Blew Into Needles.

  

Needles, CA: A passing Monsoon storm arrived into Needles, California as well as into the Colorado River Tri-State area Thursday morning bringing in isolated showers, thunder, and flashes of lightning.

The Monsoon storm moved over into Needles, California around 5:00am PT bringing in a light shower and thunderstorms with lightning. Light showers and winds around 20 to 25 mph blew into Downtown Needles, California and flashes of lightning were seen in the Topock, Arizona area as well as the area around Fort Mohave, Arizona.

At one point, two lightning strikes hit close to where ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary Lopez was reporting with one of the lightning strikes hitting next to the KTOX 1340AM Radio Station as Zachary Lopez was about to enter the radio station to report on the news happening in Needles.

The lightning strike hit just north of the KTOX 1340AM Radio Station and just east of Needles Highway along the Colorado River. KTOX 1340AM did lose power for a few second then the power came back on.

All people living or planning to travel to the Colorado River Tri-State area should be prepared for any changes in weather conditions and use caution when driving in the Monsoon storm.

Motorcycle Goes Down In Needles.

  

Needles, CA: Early Thursday morning around 5:00am PT, a man falls off of his motorcycle at the intersection of Walnut Street at North K Street in Needles, California.

According to eyewitnesses, the man was hit some loose dirt on the ground near a construction site and the motorcycle fell over with the man landing onto the street.

Nearby Good Samaritans rushed to help the man and called 911. San Bernardino County Fire Department and Baker Emergency Medical Services rushed to the scene and the man was transported by ambulance to Colorado River Medical Center.

No further information on the condition of the man.

Walnut Street was schedule to be closed today from West Broadway to M Street starting at 6:00am PT for gas line replacement construction work and road barricades were blocking Walnut Street at North K Street at the time when the motorcycle went down.

In addition, rain was falling at times in Needles, California from a passing Monsoon storm.

Needles, CA: The Needles Planning Commission will be having an important public meeting at 4:00pm PT on Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 to consider all evidence and testimony for or against approval of the following Needles Planning Commission agenda item,

“Amendment of Needles Municipal Code Section 6-20 to include “Residential Rental Property Inspection Program” requiring property used as rental property to be registered and inspected by the City.”

If the Needles Planning Commission makes a recommendation to approve the amendment of the Municipal City Code, the Needles City Council will hold a public meeting on this agenda item at 6:00pm PT on Tuesday, July 24th, 2012.

El Garces Hotel Funds Released.

  

Downtown Needles, CA: Some good news was delivered during Tuesday’s Needles City Council Meeting in Needles, California.

City of Needles City Manager David G. Brownlee announced that the Federal Transit Administration has released the funds for the El Garces Project.

“The Federal Transit Administration has authorized the release of the funds for the El Garces Project so we’re working on several pieces of that which includes a review of the appraisal due to delineate the portion of El Garces that will be represented by the intermodal transportation piece of it and that’s called the federal interest. So we’re working on that but as we speak, the reimbursement mechanism is in place and moving forward,” said City of Needles City Manager David G. Brownlee during City Manager’s Report.

City of Needles City Manager David G. Brownlee also told the Needles City Council that work on the El Garces Project could get started again by the end of this summer.

“The construction manager at risk agreement is out with the Kinney Construction Services and we hope by the end of the summer, to be getting some work on that,” said City of Needles City Manager David G. Brownlee during City Manager’s Report.

Members of the Needles City Council were very happy to hear the good news and are glad to see Needles, California moving forward.

Fire and Police Department Summer Safety Event At The Library.

  

Needles, CA: A group of people got to learn about being a firefighter and police officer as part of Tuesday’s Fire and Police Department Summer Safety Event at the Needles Branch Library in Needles, California.

San Bernardino County Fire Department Engineer Greg Regan showed off the equipment use to help save lives and to put out fires.

Members of the San Bernardino County Fire Department got to demonstrate how to put out a fire using the fire department’s fire hose.

San Bernardino County Sheriff Department Deputy Tyler Bengand and California Highway Patrol Officer Tami Mauch both showed off the equipment law enforcement use to keep the public safe as well as to help capture criminals.
