Breaking News!!: Needles, CA: Boat fire at Jack Smith Memorial Park.

A boat fire was reported at around 3:22pm PT on Sunday, March 19th, 2017 at Jack Smith Memorial Park in Needles, California.

Jociannah Elena Murillo from Needles, California sent into ZachNews video of the boat on fire along a channel near the boat launching area at Jack Smith Memorial Park.

Witnesses as well as a from the San Bernardino County Fire Department Explorer tell ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez that firefighters were on the other end of Jack Smith Memorial Park when they seem the smoke and rushed over to the fire.

People who were at the park, barbecuing and playing along the Colorado River all rushed over to see the boat fire.

Mark Davis II from Needles, California was with family barbecuing when he saw the boat on fire and went to find a fire extinguisher, but couldn’t find any at the information kiosk.

The boat fire caught near by vegetation near mobile home at Verde Shores Estates.

Mark Davis II jumped into the water, swim across the channel, and got onto land to alert residents at the mobile home park that there’s a fire burning near by.

Firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived to the boat fire and began battling the fully involved boat fire, and began to call in other fire department crews from Mohave Valley Fire Department and Bullhead City Fire Department.

Witnesses as well as deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department telling ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez that everybody on the boat got off safely.

At this moment, the cause of the boat fire is not yet known.

Lake Havasu City, AZ: A young girl fights for her life after boat capsized.

An 18 month old girl is in extremely critical condition after a boat capsized on Lake Havasu City, Arizona on Saturday, September 24th, 2016.

First responders upon arriving, a 1995 Hurricane deck boat can be spotted upside down in the water just off the shore north of Pittsburgh Point.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, there were 12 people from California on board the boat, including a 18 month old girl and the child’s parents.

As first responders arrived, they were told that the toddler was still under the boat.

A Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Boating Officer saw the baby and pulled her from the water then Lake Havasu Fire Department personnel immediately started administrating CPR on the girl while she was being transported to an awaiting ambulance.

The girl was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital after being located in the water.

The girl’s parents were on board when the boat turned over and were reportedly not injured.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, alcohol is not believed to be a factor and the accident remains under investigation.

Winds blowing 15 to 20 mph caused 2 to 4 foot waves to break on the shore in the area at the time.

Lake Havasu City, AZ: Man drowns while boating at Red Rock Cove.

 

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at about 4:30pm PT on September 24th, 2016, 29 year old Steven Cornejo of South Gate, California was boating in the area of Red Rock Cove on Lake Havasu, Arizona with friends when he jumped into the water to retrieve a hat that blew out of the their rented pontoon boat.

 

When Steven Cornejo jumped in the water, he could not make it back to the pontoon boat which was drifting in winds of about 25 mph.

 

Attempts were made by others passengers on the boat to assist Steven Cornejo but he was not able to remain on the surface.

 

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Marine Enforcement Unit responded to the area to assist.

 

Shortly after their arrival members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Dive Rescue were requested.

 

Two divers arrived and immediately conducted a hasty rescue dive in an attempt to locate the victim.

 

The rescue effort was suspended at dusk.

 

At about 7:00am PT on Sunday, September 25th, 2016, the search effort resumed.

 

The Dive Rescue Team was assisted by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

 

Sonar operations located the victim at a depth of about 50 feet.

 

At 5:21pm PT, divers brought the victim to the surface.

 

The victim was turned over to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Division.

Havasu Lake, CA: Injury boat collision.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 2:15pm PT on Saturday, May 7th, 2016, deputies from the Marine Enforcement Unit from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station responded to the report of an injury boat collision in Havasu Lake, California.

Deputies were advised that the victims, 24 year old Blake Gordon from Fawnskin, California and 21 year old Amanda Zaritsky from Fawnskin, California, were each operating personal watercraft on Lake Havasu approximately a half mile south of the Havasu Landing Casino.

Blake Gordon stopped in a cove near the California shore while watching Amanda Zaritsky operate her personal watercraft.

Amanda Zaritsky approached Blake Gordon at a high rate of speed in an attempt to splash Blake Gordon.

Amanda Zaritsky under estimated the speed and distance between the two skis and struck Blake Gordon.

Amanda Zaritsky and Blake Gordon were ejected from their personal watercraft.

Blake Gordon was assisted onto a pontoon boat that took him to the Windsor Beach launch ramp and was then transported to Havasu Regional Medical Center.

Blake Gordon suffered major injuries as a result of the collision.

Amanda Zaritsky was interviewed at Havasu Regional Medical Center where it was determined that alcohol and operator negligence are believed to be contributing factors to the collision.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station in Needles, California confirmed to ZachNews that this was the second boating accident to occurred in the Havasu Lake, California area on Saturday, May 7th, 2016.

Havasu Lake, CA: Major injury boating accident.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at approximately 4:00pm PT on Saturday, May 7th, 2016, Marine Enforcement Unit Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station witnessed a vessel explode at the Havasu Landing Resort in Havasu Lake, California.

Deputies immediately rendered aid to the victims along with civilians and an off duty Police Officer who was also a medic.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Marine Enforcement Unit also responded and extinguished the fire burning from the wreckage and aided in the rescue.

The victims, 49 year old Brian Teeter from Lake Havasu City, Arizona and 50 year old Kim Elliott from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, launched their watercraft from Body Beach on Lake Havasu City, Arizona and arrvied at the Havasu Landing Marina at around 3:00pm PT.

As Brian Teeter and Kim Elliott were leaving, Kim Elliott got onto the PWC first to hold it as Brian Teeter boarded.

Brian Teeter attempted to start the PWC and there was a large explosion that originated from the engine compartment.

After the explosion, Brian Teeter and Kim Elliott were sent air born and came to rest on “A” dock next to the now severely damaged PWC.

Brian Teeter suffered major injuries and was flown to Lake Havasu Regional Medical Center by Care Flight.

Kim Elliott suffered major injuries and was transported by water to Windsor State Park and then to Lake Havasu Regional Medical Center.

The following investigation determined a fuel leak led to the explosion.

Breaking News!!: Needles, CA: Authorities released identities of 2 victims in fatal boat crash.

Authorities have released the identities of the victims in the fatal boat crash that happened along the Colorado River in Needles, California on Friday, October 9th, 2015.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Coroner’s Division, the victims are identified as 36 year old Daniel John Ryan from Lakewood, California and 62 year old Larry Gene Goodrich from Mohave Valley, Arizona.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at about 6:17pm PT on Friday, October 9th, 2015, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station responded to Needles Marina for a report of a injury boating accident.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez captured first responders from Mohave Valley Fire Department heading to Needles Marina R.V. Park located at 100 Marina Drive in Needles, California where the injures were being picked up at.

First responders from Mohave Valley Fire Department met with first responders from San Bernardino County Fire Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Baker Emergency Medical Services, and Fort Mohave Fire Department to assist and treat the injured people.

Despite having audio problems, ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez captured the scene of multiple first responders at the west end of the Needles Marina R.V. Park in Needles, California.

Paramedics were seen through the back windows ambulance working on a person laying down on the stretcher as a women wearing a cap is seating near by the person.

Paramedics and firefighters were also seen walking a women slowly to an awaiting ambulance well talking to them.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the accident involved 2 boats and 7 passengers.

The accident occurred approximately a 1/2 mile north of Needles Bridge on the Colorado River in Needles, California.

Passengers from each boat were ejected into the water.

The drivers of each boat were killed on impact and the 5 passengers were transported to area hospitals for a wide variety of injuries.

Members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Boating Accident Investigation Team responded to conduct the investigation.

At least 2 divers from the Department’s Dive Rescue Team also assisted in locating the body of one the driver’s.

On Saturday, October 10th, 2015, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station confirmed to ZachNews that the 2 boats parked in the back parking lot area of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station are the 2 boats involved in the fatal crash along the Colorado River in Needles, California.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez spotted the 2 boats parked in the back parking lot area of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station off of Bailey Avenue in Needles, California well heading to cover the Republic of China’s National Day 10-10 Ceremony 2015 that was happening just around the corner from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station.

Also on Saturday, October 10th, 2015, hospital staff at the Colorado River Medical Center in Needles, California tell ZachNews that some of the injured people in the fatal boat crash were transported to their hospital, but at this moment, that’s all they can say.

City of Needles Mayor Edward T. Paget M.D., Surgeon at Colorado River Medical Center, and Bing Lum, Executive Vice President at Colorado River Medical Center, expressed their condolences to the victim’s family well they were attending the Republic of China’s National Day 10-10 Ceremony 2015 banquet luncheon at Panda Garden restaurant in Needles, California.

The cause of the fatal boat crash is still under investigation.

ZachNews has the latest information regarding a fatal boat crash that happened along the Colorado River in Needles, California.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at about 6:17pm PT on Friday, October 9th, 2015, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station responded to Needles Marina for a report of a injury boating accident.

The accident involved 2 boats and 7 passengers.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station confirms to ZachNews that the 2 boats in these pictures taken by ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez is the 2 boats involved in the fatal crash along the Colorado River in Needles, California.

The accident occurred approximately a 1/2 mile north of Needles Bridge on the Colorado River in Needles, California.

Passengers from each boat were ejected into the water.

The drivers of each boat were killed on impact and the 5 passengers were transported to area hospitals for a wide variety of injuries.
