News Update!!: Needles, CA: Latest Information: Mesa Grande Apartments Fire.

ZachNews has the latest information regarding the fire at the Mesa Grande Apartments that occurred on Thursday, March 30th, 2017 in Needles, California.

** A Week Later, No Identity Release on Fire Victim: **

As of 3:32pm PT on Tuesday, April 11th, 2017, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Coroner’s Office tells ZachNews that the identity of the person who died in the apartment fire has not been release, hasn’t been positive identification, and is being called a “Jane Doe”. 

Despite what a local newspaper has reported, no official age or name of the person has been release.

ZachNews has been contacting the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Coroner’s Office daily for any updates and has been taking note of all contacts in the last week of calls.

ZachNews will wait for an official released of the fire victim’s identify as well as cause of the apartment fire. 

** How the Mesa Grande Apartments Fire unfolded: **

At around 5:02pm PT on Thursday, March 30th, 2017, calls reporting a fire at the Mesa Grande Apartments, located at 1600 Lilyhill Drive, in Needles, California began coming into emergency dispatch.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez was alerted on the fire, ran over to the fire, and began reporting on the fire live on Facebook.

Well fire department crews were still in route to the fire, residents and people who seen the fire ran over to the apartments on fire to help get as many people and animals out of the apartment units.

Firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department’s Station 32 arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the apartment units.

Firefighters from Mohave Valley Fire Department, Fort Mojave Mesa Fire Department, Golden Shores Fire Department, and Bullhead City Fire Department were called and arrived to the fire.

Firefighters as they battle the fire well battling against the gusty winds and some blowing dust at kept blowing into the area.

Adding to the situation, firefighters had some trouble with a near by fire hydrant.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, a private fire hydrant on the property wasn’t functioning at the time of the fire.

Firefighters battle the fire for an hours as people gathered across the street hoping that the fire gets put out soon.

Lilyhill Drive was closed by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department from Bailey Avenue to Clary Drive.

With the fire out, fire officials searched inside the burned apartment units to find if there were anybody inside during the fire.

At 6:30pm PT on Thursday, March 30th, 2017, San Bernardino County Fire Department confirmed that a body of a female in the bedroom of the apartment was found and the unidentified female was confirmed dead by firefighters.

The confirmed information by the San Bernardino County Fire Department was then posted on the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Coroner’s Office website.

At 6:35pm PT on Thursday, March 30th, 2017, the San Bernardino County Fire Department posted on their Twitter page, “Needles(Update): IC reports knock down on fire. One vict w/ smoke inhalation. One subject located deceased. Secondary search continues“.

After getting additional confirmation on the death over the phone, ZachNews broke the confirmed information from the San Bernardino County Fire Department at 7:12pm PT on Thursday, March 30th, 2017.

 

As of 6:22pm PT on Friday, April 7th, 2017, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Coroner’s Office tells ZachNews that the identity of the person who died in the apartment fire has not been release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation through San Bernardino County Fire Department’s Office of the Fire Marshal and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit.

Many of the people, including those who called 911 reporting the fire, are asking San Bernardino County Fire Department and City of Needles officials why there was a delay in repose to the fire and why was there problems with a near by fire hydrant during the fire.

According to the American Red Cross Northern Arizona Chapter, Disaster Action Team (D.A.T.) volunteers Marilyn Bailey, Pat and Charles Traylor responded to the fire and assessed damages as well as provide for the emergency needs of those affected by the fire.

Breaking News!!: Needles, CA: Fatal fire at the Mesa Grande Apartments.

ZachNews has confirmed with San Bernardino County Fire Department that a fatal fire occurred at the Mesa Grande Apartments, located at 1600 Lilyhill Drive, in Needles, California.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, a search of the apartments that was involved in the fire located an elderly female who was deceased inside the a unit.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department posted the location of a deceased person on their official Twitter page.

The identity of the person found deceased hasn’t been officially release.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Coroner’s Office, “The unidentified female was confirmed dead at 6:30 PM by fire fighters. Once identification is established, the name will be released.”

People from other near by units were helped out to safety by several people who witnesses the fire and ran over to help.

The fire started at around 5:00pm PT on Thursday, March 30th, 2017 as gusty winds blow across the community.

These were Live Video recorded on Facebook by ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez of the fire at the Mesa Grande Apartments.

Firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department, Mohave Valley Fire Department, Fort Mojave Mesa Fire Department, Golden Shores Fire Department, and Bullhead City Fire Department have responded to the fire.

Witnesses telling ZachNews that firefighter were having trouble with a near by fire hydrant.

According to the San Bernardino County Fire Department, a private fire hydrant on the property wasn’t functioning at the time of the fire.

Witnesses also telling ZachNews that fire crews took 9 minutes to respond to the fire, which a San Bernardino County Fire Department Explorer told ZachNews that it was due to the other calls related to the winds.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation through San Bernardino County Fire Department’s Office of the Fire Marshal and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit.

Lilyhill Drive from Bailey Avenue to Clary Drive has been reopened after being closed during the fire.

Breaking News!!: Needles, CA: Authorities released identities of 2 victims in fatal boat crash.

Authorities have released the identities of the victims in the fatal boat crash that happened along the Colorado River in Needles, California on Friday, October 9th, 2015.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Coroner’s Division, the victims are identified as 36 year old Daniel John Ryan from Lakewood, California and 62 year old Larry Gene Goodrich from Mohave Valley, Arizona.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at about 6:17pm PT on Friday, October 9th, 2015, deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station responded to Needles Marina for a report of a injury boating accident.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez captured first responders from Mohave Valley Fire Department heading to Needles Marina R.V. Park located at 100 Marina Drive in Needles, California where the injures were being picked up at.

First responders from Mohave Valley Fire Department met with first responders from San Bernardino County Fire Department, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Baker Emergency Medical Services, and Fort Mohave Fire Department to assist and treat the injured people.

Despite having audio problems, ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez captured the scene of multiple first responders at the west end of the Needles Marina R.V. Park in Needles, California.

Paramedics were seen through the back windows ambulance working on a person laying down on the stretcher as a women wearing a cap is seating near by the person.

Paramedics and firefighters were also seen walking a women slowly to an awaiting ambulance well talking to them.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the accident involved 2 boats and 7 passengers.

The accident occurred approximately a 1/2 mile north of Needles Bridge on the Colorado River in Needles, California.

Passengers from each boat were ejected into the water.

The drivers of each boat were killed on impact and the 5 passengers were transported to area hospitals for a wide variety of injuries.

Members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Boating Accident Investigation Team responded to conduct the investigation.

At least 2 divers from the Department’s Dive Rescue Team also assisted in locating the body of one the driver’s.

On Saturday, October 10th, 2015, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station confirmed to ZachNews that the 2 boats parked in the back parking lot area of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station are the 2 boats involved in the fatal crash along the Colorado River in Needles, California.

ZachNews Photojournalist Zachary A. Lopez spotted the 2 boats parked in the back parking lot area of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station off of Bailey Avenue in Needles, California well heading to cover the Republic of China’s National Day 10-10 Ceremony 2015 that was happening just around the corner from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Colorado River Station.

Also on Saturday, October 10th, 2015, hospital staff at the Colorado River Medical Center in Needles, California tell ZachNews that some of the injured people in the fatal boat crash were transported to their hospital, but at this moment, that’s all they can say.

City of Needles Mayor Edward T. Paget M.D., Surgeon at Colorado River Medical Center, and Bing Lum, Executive Vice President at Colorado River Medical Center, expressed their condolences to the victim’s family well they were attending the Republic of China’s National Day 10-10 Ceremony 2015 banquet luncheon at Panda Garden restaurant in Needles, California.

The cause of the fatal boat crash is still under investigation.
