News Update!!: Yucaipa, CA: Latest information regarding the “Mill 2 Fire”.

ZachNews has the latest information regarding the “Mill 2 Fire” that is burning in the San Bernardino National Forest in Yucaipa, California on Sunday, July 12th, 2015.

** As of 6:00pm PT on Sunday, July 12th, 2015: **

– According to CalFire, the “Mill 2 Fire” has burned approximately 45 acres in size and remains at 60% percent contained.

The Mill 2 Fire started in Mill Creek Canyon near Highway 38 and Bryant Street at about 2:30pm PT on Sunday, July 12th, 2015 in Yucaipa, California.

According to the InciWeb, the cause of the “Mill 2 Fire” was “Faulty Catalytic Converter”.

All evacuation orders have been lifted.

Highway 38 has since been reopened.

Around 230 personnel including firefighters are battling and assigning at the “Mill 2 Fire”.

There is 17 engines, 7 crews, 2 bulldozers, 2 water tenders, 5 helicopters, 2 fixed wing air tankers, and a air attack plane are being used on the “Mill 2 Fire”.

An Unmanned Aircraft System (drone) temporarily halted tanker operations, but operations soon resumed.

Fire department officials urge individuals, organizations, and the public that fly drones to avoid the wildfire areas to ensure the safety of firefighters and the effectiveness of wildfire suppression operations. Unauthorized drone flights over or near the wildfires could cause serious injury or death to firefighters on the ground.

Unauthorized drones could also be involved in midair collisions with airtankers, helicopters, and other aircraft engaged in fire suppression operations.

This could decrease the effectiveness of fire suppression operations, allowing the fire to grow larger and potentially threaten lives, property, and valuable natural and cultural resources.

Firefighting aircraft typically fly at about the same, or lower, altitude than hobbyists or recreationists fly drones, often in smoky, windy, and turbulent conditions.

Safety depends on knowing what other aircraft are operating in the airspace and where they are at all times and this is compromised by the presence of unauthorized aircraft, including drones.
