Needles, CA: Family and community come together during new substation dedication ceremony honoring Bill Yoney.

Needles, CA: Family and community come together during new substation dedication ceremony honoring Bill Yoney.

The City of Needles held a dedication ceremony for the new Bill Yoney Substation on Tuesday, February 13th, 2018 at 811 Bush Street in Needles, California.

ZachNews broadcast live on Facebook the dedication ceremony for the new Bill Yoney Substation as family members of Bill Yoney along with City of Needles Officials and crew members who worked on building the new substation attended the ceremony.

City of Needles Mayor Edward T. Paget and family members spoke about the life of Bill Yoney and what he did for the community he loved.

ZachNews spoke with Jenny Yoney, Bill Yoney’s Daughter, about her father and what he met to the community.

Before his passing from stage 4 lung cancer in June 2015, Bill Yoney was a lineman for the City of Needles for 38 years, working hard to keep the community’s power on, including going out in the stormy nights to get the power back on.

Bill Yoney was very well respected and liked by many in the community and would help anybody in need, including helping to save a man’s life in a traffic accident.

A temporary sign was posted up during the dedication ceremony until the new brass plaque arrives and be place inside the gated substation lot on a cement block facing Bush Street.

Bill Yoney’s dedication to keeping the community’s power on still lives on in the hard working utility crews of today who are building new power lines to improve the power system in the community, and rushing out into the storms to get power back on as fast as possible.

The community thanks Bill Yoney for his service to our community and to all of the hard working utility crews who continue to keep the lights on in our community no matter what the weather conditions are outside.
