The man’s identified was released on Thursday, April 9th, 2015 by San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department as 30 year old Francis Jared Pusok of Apple Valley, California and released this mugshot of Francis Jared Pusok (Above Picture) on Friday, April 10th, 2015.

In a press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, at 12:12pm PT on Thursday, April 9th, 2015, deputies from the Victor Valley Station went to a residence on the 25300 block of Zuni Road in Apple Valley, California to serve a search warrant related to an Identity Theft investigation. Upon arrival the suspect, Francis Jared Pusok, fled the location in a vehicle. Deputies pursued Francis Jared Pusok through Apple Valley, California and further into Hesperia, California. Francis Jared Pusok abandoned the vehicle southwest of Bowen Ranch and fled on foot. Deputies were actively searching for Francis Jared Pusok on foot, using off-highway vehicles and helicopters. Within minutes, deputies received information that the suspect came into contact with a group of people near the Deep Creek Hot Springs and stole a horse. Francis Jared Pusok fled on horseback on dirt trails, through very rugged, steep terrain, causing numerous injuries to the horse. A Sheriff’s helicopter inserted a team of deputies in the area of Highway 173 and Arrowhead Lake Road in Hesperia, California to take the suspect in to custody. Deputies made contact with Pusok and as they approached, the horse threw him off. A Taser was deployed but was ineffective due to his loose clothing. A use of force occurred during the arrest. An internal investigation will be conducted regarding the use of force. At least 3 deputies were injured during the search, 2 suffered dehydration and a third was injured when kicked by the horse. All 3 were transported to the hospital for treatment.

According the the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Francis Jared Pusok was treated at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and was later booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga being held on $115,000 bail.

According to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department John McMahon, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were “familiar” with Francis Jared Pusok’s criminal history prior to the police pursuit, a criminal rap sheet that includes attempted robbery, threats against a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Deputy, and animal cruelty charges for shooting a puppy in front of family members.

Criminal records also showed Francis Jared Pusok’s criminal history which includes driving on a sidewalk at an unsafe speed in 2002; attempted robbery in 2006; fighting in 2011; cruelty to an animal in 2013; resisting a law enforcement officer in 2013; and obstructing or resisting an law enforcement officer in 2014.

“I’m asking for some patience while we complete a thorough and fair investigation. I assure you, if there is criminal doing on the part of any of our deputy sheriffs or any policy violations we will take action,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department John McMahon.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department won’t release the names of deputies, including a sergeant and a detective, until they’re sure that multiple threats made aren’t valid.

According to San Bernardino County District Attorney Mike Ramos, “The video that we saw yesterday is extremely upsetting and I understand the public’s concern. I have the utmost faith in the Sheriff’s Department to conduct a full and complete investigation of this incident. At that time, if there is any misconduct, and I have said this repeatedly before, we will take the appropriate action.”

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) is investigating this incident and if Francis Jared Pusok’s civil rights were violated.

In a statement released to the media, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) said, “The FBI has initiated an investigation to determine whether civil rights were violated during a pursuit and altercation involving Francis Pusok and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies on April 9, 2015. The results of the review will be forwarded to the United States Attorney’s Office in the Central District of California, and the Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, in Washington, D.C., to determine whether further investigation and/or prosecution is warranted. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department will continue its investigation of the matter already underway and questions relative to developments on its case should be referred to San Bernardino County officials. No further comment from the FBI would be appropriate at this time.”

Francis Jared Pusok’s Family Attorney Jim Terrell told reporters that he believes the video “is far worse than Rodney King” and has called for the termination and arrests of the deputies seen in the beating.

Jolene Bindner, Francis Jared Pusok’s girlfriend of 13 years, couldn’t believe what had happen and described Francis Jared Pusok as a great father.
